Destiny 2 Solstice of Heroes - Elemental Charge Explained

Solstice of Heroes is back in Destiny 2, and Guardians can head to the European Aerial Zone and battle bosses and open chests for the next few weeks. Solstice of Heroes also brings new armor to Destiny 2, although Solstice armor can be upgraded by completing various objectives ranging from defeating enemies to completing adventures, eventually unlocking a cool armor glow effect for fully upgraded Solstice gear. During Solstice of Heroes, Elemental Orbs drop from defeated enemies, and picking up these Orbs provides a stack of Elemental Charge. Each elemental orb has a different effect, providing a unique buff while they are active.

What is Elemental Charge in Destiny 2?

Elemental Charge is a status effect in Destiny 2 that is obtained by acquiring Elemental Orbs that drop from defeated enemies. Enemies drop elemental orbs that match the element of damage that killed them. Defeating enemies with solar damage causes them to drop solar elemental orbs, defeating enemies with arc damage causes them to drop arc elemental orbs, and so on. You can pick up elemental orbs by stepping on them, and each orb acquired adds 1 stack of elemental charge.

After reaching 30 stacks of Elemental Charge, you will be upgraded with one of the following status effects.

  • Sunscreens – Equip your solar subclass and weapons to generate solar orbs. Then collect them to use their solar elemental power. While empowered, Guardians emit a searing wave of energy that damages everything around them.
  • Arc – Equip your Arc subclass and weapons to generate Arc orbs. Then collect them to use their Arc elemental power. When empowered, Guardians move with enhanced speed and deal more melee and sword damage.
  • néant – Equip your Void subclass and weapons to spawn Void Orbs. Then collect them to use their elemental void power. Crouch while empowered to turn invisible and gain True Sight plus enhanced ability regeneration.

You can see your current Elemental Charge level in the lower left part of the screen, just above your ammo and abilities. It's also worth noting that you can only receive a bonus from an item that matches the item of the day. During Solstice of Heroes, each day features one of the game's three elements and enhances that element's power. You can only get an elemental buff if you choose elemental orbs that match the daily element. You can still generate and collect orbs of any element on any day to complete your armor upgrade goals, but only one elemental buff will be available each day. These buffs are available in all game modes except Competitive and Gambit Prime.
