Not easy easy mercenary life in Assassin's Creed Odyssey. We've got a guide full of tips to help you get your adventure started on the right track.

Assassin's Creed Odyssey offers a formula very different from the other episodes of the series. There are a lot of mechanics to learn and the list of things to do is very long. In order to help you start the adventure on the right track, here is a series of tips that it may be useful to know before embarking on the adventure.

Play in Explore Mode

One of the first choices you will have to make when launching the game is between classic mode and exploration mode. The classic mode will automatically mark your quest objectives on the map, which will not only make the game easier and more direct, but more importantly more boring. By activating the normal mode, you will simply run from one point to another without really exploring or searching, and therefore miss many treasures that you would have found by going a little off the beaten track.

Exploration mode will allow you to better understand the environment. By comparing the information given to you by the characters with your map and your research, you will be able to better understand the world of Odyssey and discover more interesting passages than those shown by the quest marker.

Do side quests

Assassin's Creed Odyssey offers a lot of quests outside of the main plot. We advise you to do as much as possible. As well as being interesting and generally well-written, they give significant experience and gold bonuses to keep you leveling up. Some of them also offer choices that may be important for the continuation of the main quest or for the evolution of the Greek world.

Weigh your choices

Your choices have a real impact in the game. Some of them can lead to big rewards. Others can have catastrophic consequences and deprive you of certain quests in the game or change the ending.

Making the moral choice or choosing without thinking by telling yourself that everything will necessarily be fine is a mistake. So think carefully about what you will respond to the other characters, especially since the game has fun hiding terrible consequences in choices that might seem trivial.

Choose Action

The choice system is not limited to dialogues. When you have a mission, you also have to choose your approach. Without it being explicitly stated in the game, some quests are impacted by your method. Killing a target in public rather than out of sight can prevent other characters from trusting you, limiting your choices. Other quests will be completely canceled if you are surprised, even if you thought you were accomplishing your objective.

Stay discreet

Stealth is important in Odyssey. If you are seen stealing or killing, you will increase the bounty on your head and you will be chased by powerful mercenaries. Additionally, getting spotted in an enemy fort or camp will bring in a steady stream of soldiers and reinforcements, causing you to kill even more and thus increase your bounty once again.

Assassination skills are also the most powerful in the game. They will make your life easier, but can only be used if you are not spotted.

Locate the places

Ikaros is perfect for spotting places in advance. Your eagle can mark enemy targets and gives you a favorable vantage point for reconnaissance. Look for entrances, exits, nooks where you can hide. Planning its infiltration is very important, because you won't really have the right to make mistakes.

Defense rather than Attack

It is important to live to fight another day! If you engage in combat, pay close attention to the movements of your opponents. If it glows white, you can parry. If it glows orange, you're going to have to dodge.

Don't wait to finish your combo before defending yourself. Most enemy attacks have priority. If you see the enemy shining, forget everything else and protect yourself!

THIS IS SPARTA !!!

In your first hours of play, the Sparta Kick is probably your best friend. It allows you to eliminate enemies, even if they are more than ten levels higher than you. You just have to reach the heights and wait for your opponent to join you. Once you're up, stand between your enemy and the void. Wait for him to attack, dodge to the side to go behind his back and kick him. Enjoy the show.

Run away from the mercenaries

Mercenaries offer more difficult fights than ordinary soldiers. Their AI is good, they have skills and often levels in addition to yours. They therefore seem to be prime targets for a valiant fight and a little experience! ...Only killing them will not remove your bounty. Once a mercenary is dead, another immediately takes his place. Given the time it takes you to kill one, a second has plenty of time to land and attack you in turn. The best way out of this situation is to run away.

Test builds

Assassin's Creed Odyssey offers you 3 different skill trees. The hunter is good at reconnaissance and ranged fire, the warrior excels in combat, and the assassination is perfect for infiltration. You can specialize or mix styles a bit. If you're not sure you'll like a skill, you can very well take it and use it to get a feel for it. If the skill is not for you, you can always reset your skill tree for a few drachmas.

Dismantle or sell the equipment

You will very quickly accumulate equipment in the game. Boots, helmets, armor or weapons of all kinds. You should dismantle (from the menu) or sell your unused, lower level gear to a merchant. This will bring you many materials or gold that will be much more useful than a pile of useless rust.
