Dance Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, it is essential to master the Turbo if you want to put all the chances of winning on your side. There are different types, including a new one since the Deluxe Edition of Mario Kart 8, the purple boost.

The Departure-Turbo

The Start-Turbo has been around since the very first Mario Kart, but its timing is different in each game. It's about pressing the accelerator at the right time before the race to benefit from better acceleration when the race begins.

In Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, you have to press tails when Lakitu's second fire lights up. If you press before, you will be penalized. If you press afterwards, you will have a boost, but weaker than if you had achieved a perfect turbo start.

Mini-Turbos

Mini-Turbos are the turbos you get from skidding. There are three levels of boost: blue, orange, and purple. The power of your mini-turbo depends on the angle you trajectory during your skid.

If you skid 90°, you will do a blue mini-turbo.
If you skid 180°, you will do an orange mini-turbo.
If you skid 270°, you will do a purple mini-turbo.

The mini-turbos all give the same power, but their duration varies.

The blue mini-turbo lasts 0.621 seconds.
The orange mini-turbo lasts 1.674 seconds.
The purple mini-turbo lasts 2.633 seconds.

As you will have understood, the purple mini-turbo is by far much better than the others. Be careful not to use it systematically either if you play in 200cc, you could have surprises.
