You launched your first game of Teamfight Tactics and you may be completely confused. Don't panic, we give you a series of keys to better understand the ins and outs, as well as the basic strategies of this new game in the League of Legends universe.

Play and make mistakes

The best way to learn and understand what works and what doesn't is to play. So play it over and over again and see what works and what doesn't. We still advise you to read and learn the rules of the game. And if you need basic and useful instructions, here is a series of tips to keep in mind.

Not leaving with a game plan

You will never know what Teamfight Tactics will offer you. You can't predict a specific build or deck in advance. It's better to adapt to what the game offers you than to restrict yourself to a particular composition, especially in the early game. That's not to say you can't have all the Glacials in a game if you really insist, but a player who adapts will probably beat you.

Don't scatter

With all these champions on offer, it's tempting to buy plenty of them, especially if they're rare. Unfortunately, there is very little chance that it will be profitable and that you will be able to place all these units on the playing field. It is better to select a few specific units that work well together and only buy what is necessary to evolve them ( that is, other copies of these champions). Know that your first four units are among the most important in the entire game.

Prioritize Class bonuses

Each character corresponds to at least one class and origin. When several champions with the same affinity are placed together, they unlock powerful bonuses. When building your team, pay attention to these classes. It is not necessary to get the maximum bonus for each of them, the mixtures also work very well.

See our Classes guide for more information.

Manage your money

Money management is a key factor in Teamfight Tactics. Do not spend your POs in the wind. It is better to spend when you are sure to get something, than to invest in a random factor. Refreshing the store is rarely profitable, for example.

Quickly evolve your first champions

The first champions that will be offered to you are not necessarily weak or uninteresting. They will most of the time be the only ones that you can make reach the maximum level, which makes them just as competent as the last champions that you will keep at level 1. So do not hesitate to evolve them, and quickly. The further you progress in the game, the less likely you are to come across doubles and make them evolve.

Objects are more interesting than Champions

TFT items are much rarer and more valuable than champions. During the carousel phases where you are offered a round of champions, focus on the items rather than the champions themselves. You can always find champions each time you refresh the store, however the number of items is very limited and the drop phases are very random. That's why it's better to choose an interesting object rather than a champion.

Place your Items on the carries

Rather than giving an item to each character, it's usually better to give all of your items to one character. He will become your hyper-carry, while the others will be there to cover him and give him bonuses. Once a character has three items, you can start giving them to another unit which will become equally powerful and interesting.

Transition to late game

As you progress through the game, some of your champions will lose interest. This is especially the case for your champions that you will not be able to raise to the maximum level or who have more powerful equivalents at the end of the game. Ahri is an excellent champion in the first 3 rounds, but Aurelion Sol behaves the same and is much more powerful. Unless your Ahri is at the maximum level, you can consider selling it to replace it with Aurelion.

Collect your items

This point may seem contradictory with the two previous ones, but it is in fact complementary. There is no problem placing your items on early game carries, it does not prevent the transition. Returning to Ahri's example, if you equipped her well at the start of the game, you get all the items you gave her back. If you have another level 2 Ahri in reserve, you can simply sell the one in play to recover the items, place them on Aurelion, and place your second Ahri on the field to keep its class and origin bonuses.

Place your pawns according to your team

Try to think about the optimal way to place your champions on the board, depending on your composition. It goes without saying that your tanks should be in front of your carries, but things are a little more complex than that. First, adapt to the range of each of your characters. Also place your strongest units in the front line, even if they are not tanks per se. Despite its Brawler status, a level 1 Volibear risks being killed before it can even attack once if it is in the front line.

Place your pawns according to the opponent.

You must also adapt to the compositions of your opponents. If your enemies have a lot of zone spells, it may be interesting to separate your characters on the grid. Sometimes placing a tank in the back line can protect your carries from assassins. At the end of the game, when there are not many players left, you will regularly fall against the survivors. If you will lose a fight, try to move some units. This may be enough to give you the advantage.

Manage aggro

This is a point that corresponds to the previous two, but be very careful how you will attract the aggression of your enemies. For better or for worse, the AI in Teamfight Tactics does not respond to any particular strategy: the units attack the first target that is within their reach. If you want to split the damage between your tanks, space them out a bit, but place them the same distance from the opponents. If you have an unbeatable tank, you can stick it directly to the opposing team and place all the rest of your team on the other side of the board, so that they can put all their damage quietly, without risking recurrences or damage. area attacks.

Test!

Teamfight Tactics is an all-new, all-beautiful game. There's no real meta yet, so don't be afraid to try combinations of characters or items that look interesting to you, even if you've never seen them elsewhere. There are so many possibilities that you might find something crazy that people haven't thought of yet.
