Test Batman: The Alliance of Heroes

Test Batman: The Alliance of HeroesFrom the very first moments, Batman: The Alliance of Heroes sets the tone. With its 2D gameplay, its horizontal and vertical scrollings and its dozens of mandalas to distribute, we are indeed dealing with an old school beat'em all. We are talking here about the titles that made players happy in the 90s, namely classics such as Final Fight or Streets of Rage. The game therefore asks you to cross the sets of the series by thwarting the plans of various threats such as the feline Catwoman or the less popular Grodd. To do this, Batman is accompanied by one of his acolytes during the four episodes that punctuate the software. In order, you will therefore find Robin, Blue Beetle, Hawkman and Green Lantern. And as you might expect, and this is certainly one of the main strengths of the game, the adventure can be played by two players for even more conviviality.

At the level of the blows to be given between two phases of platforms, we cannot say that we are doing in originality and one-upmanship, but it is clear that it works very well and that we have a lot of fun . Hammering the A button allows you to get out of many situations, even if some subtleties exist. Thus, Batman and his cronies can swing uppercuts, various combos, a powerful attack using a Wiimote movement and a super combo by waving the two devices. Batarangs and other gadgets are also present and it is even possible to improve them by spending a small nest egg left by the annihilated villains. The acquisition of new weapons will even allow you to explore new areas in the courses you have already gone through. But the most devastating attack is undoubtedly the intervention of one of the superheroes: Aquaman, Captain Marvel or even The Flash who intervene on the screen like the reinforcements of the first Streets of Rage to sweep away all the enemies. . Only then, in fact, we will do without this asset as the whole is sorely lacking in challenge, despite the great fun provided by the brawls. And it's not the absence of Game Over that will change things. Indeed, each defeat in Batman: The Alliance of Heroes results in a loss of 100 of your coins. If we add to this facility a very skinny lifespan (it takes less than two hours per episode), we quickly understand that the developers wanted to make the game accessible to target a wide audience. Fortunately, Batman: The Alliance of Heroes perks up the ears with the help of the general charm it provides. This concerns first of all the aesthetics of the game which obviously takes up that of the anime. We therefore find decorations and sprites in colors reminiscent of those of the cartoon of the 90s, supported by this little retro side of the beginnings of the Man Bat of the 40s. The jazzy melodies also give a very singular atmosphere to the progress of the game. The cutscenes and dialogues that Batman and his partner exchange breathe life into the events and it is not uncommon to smile at a few valves or other thoughts. For example, the annoying Blue Beetle will not hesitate to ask Batman about the irritation of his crotch or about the environment which resembles a large corridor and which evokes what one can find in video games… In thus adding these pleasant little passages to an exemplary handling and a fairly frantic pace of play that quickly connects the chapters so as not to leave too much time to breathe, we see that Batman: the Alliance of Heroes has everything good surprise.
